PSYCHOTHERAPY IS ABOUT CHANGE

People seek therapy for many different reasons, but at its core, the therapeutic process is about change, healing, and growth. Some enter therapy because they’re struggling with anxiety or depression. Others may feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them or are overwhelmed by life transitions, grief, or relationship issues. Still others come to therapy not because something is necessarily “wrong,” but because they want to know themselves better, strengthen their relationships, or live with greater intention and authenticity. Whatever your reason, therapy can be a meaningful step toward the life you want to lead.

It’s natural to question the value of therapy, especially if you have supportive friends or family in your life. Personal relationships are essential, but they often come with their own expectations and limitations. Therapy offers something uniquely different: a space that is just for you. It’s confidential, nonjudgmental, and separate from your daily roles and responsibilities. In this space, you can safely explore complex or painful emotions such as anger, guilt, and sadness without having to filter your words in order to protect others. You’re not expected to be “fine” or to have it all figured out. Instead, therapy invites you to bring your full, unedited self into the room.

Another common misconception is that the goal or purpose of therapy is erasing difficult feelings. In reality, therapy honors the fact that emotional pain is often a reasonable response to life’s hardships. Feeling sad during a loss or fearful during uncertainty doesn’t mean you’re broken, just that you’re human. The problem arises when those emotions become overwhelming, persistent, or interfere with your ability to function, connect with others, or enjoy life. Therapy can help you understand where these patterns come from, how they show up in your life, and what you can do to create change.

Our work together will be collaborative, so it’s a process we engage in together. We’ll explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors with curiosity and compassion. You will gain insights about how your past shapes your present, recognize automatic, often unconscious beliefs that affect your choices, and learn practical tools to manage stress and navigate relationships more effectively. Over time, these shifts will lead to meaningful improvements in your mood, self-esteem, and relationships with others.

My goal is that at the end of therapy, you will have deepened your self-awareness and built emotional resilience.  You'll be more effective in setting boundaries, expressing your needs, and handling difficult situations without becoming overwhelmed. You will relate to yourself with greater kindness and less self-criticism. And perhaps most importantly, you will reconnect with your own inner strength, the part of you that wants more, that is capable of change, and that is ready to grow.
